About Balmacara

Balmacara Forest has mixed, planted conifers with patches of native birchwoods and oakwoods on the slopes and craggy hills above Lochalsh.

The upper reaches of the forest have unrivalled views of Lochalsh, the Kylerhea narrows and across to Skye. One of the views looks south towards the Kylerhea narrows, bordered on both sides by hills on Skye and the mainland.

How to get there:

Balmacara, Reraig, Kirkton, Kyle Of Lochalsh, Dornie, and Inverinate are the nearest towns or villages.

Balmacara forest is five miles east of Kyle of Lochalsh on the slopes above Reraig.

From the A87, take the unclassified road to Balmacara Square. At the T junction, turn right onto another unclassified road which is adjacent to the forest.

There is a twice daily bus service between Inverness and Skye which stops at the main villages along the A87.
