MES is the largest provider of forestry machines in the country. It supplies and supports a Forestry Commission fleet of, 40 Tree Harvesters, 45 Log Carrying Forwarders , 82 Road Building Machines, 1700 Vehicles (Cars and Vans), 74 Tractors, 23 Cross Country Machines, 2400 Sundry Items.

By providing and supporting this large fleet, MES helps the Forestry Commission to respond quickly to new policy initiatives, develop systems, techniques and set standards for operations which can be compared to the services provided by contractors.  MES has a highly skilled and well motivated workforce that can support a wide range of machines and vehicles. The Head of Mechanical Engineering Services has overall responsibility for the management of MES with specific objectives in:

  • business development
  • helping to deliver the Forestry Commission’s objectives
  • financial management with key performance indicators
  • human resources including training, health and safety
  • quality systems, monitoring and improving delivery of service to customers
  • planning and submission of annual business plans
  • business development, helping to deliver the Forestry Commission's objectives
